WEB FOCUS – FEMALE PRESSURE – VISIBILITY

VISIBILITY

female:pressure is an international network of over 1400 female artists from 65 countries in the wider fields of electronic music. This blog was inspired by Bjork’s Pitchfork article in January 2015 where she notes the lack of photographic documentation of women at work. Here we offer a visual catalogue of female producers, DJ’s, media artists and electronic music performers at work. These are not our press photos. This is a collective effort to demonstrate women and their use of technology in music and media production. Contributions welcome!

I couldn’t have said it better myself.

As part of the Pioneers short season I am reposting some of the older articles as they are well worth another airing

The BBC Radiophonic Workshop, one of the sound effects units of the BBC, was created in 1958 to produce effects and new music for radio, and was closed in March 1998.  Daphne Oram was a true pioneer of electronic music and this great gallery of photographs gives some great insight into the work being done at BBC.
