Review Reblog – Svetlana Maraš and Bodies Under The Waterfall ~ Angry Ambient Artists Vol. 2

Yes, you can be an angry ambient artist and this expresses the mood at the moment.
“What to do with all this anger?  The healthiest approach is to channel it into something positive” – Couldn’t agree more.

postrockcafe's avatara closer listen

fwd16_frontThere’s been a lot of news to be angry about this year, from terrorism to Brexit to the U.S. presidential elections to the ongoing crisis in Syria.  What to do with all this anger?  The healthiest approach is to channel it into something positive, which Svetlana Maraš and Bodies Under The Waterfall do in the second installment of Forwind’s Angry Ambient Artists series ~ ironically, once again ending up in the Drone category.  As the series progresses, we may determine that “angry ambient” is an oxymoron, but it’s still a catchy title.

Last time around, the artists involved (Machinefabriek and Phillippe Petit) were well-known for their softer works, as well as their forays into abrasion.  This time, the artists are new, which leads one to wonder if they were ever ambient at all.  Their stated goal:  “to make some creative sense of these dark times.”  These sounds are indeed…

Reblog – Evening of Light Are Celebrating Their 10 Year Anniversary With ‘LVX: Ten Years of Light and Darkness’ — Heathen Harvest

In October 2006, Evening of Light was launched as an outlet for their growing love for alternative folk and ambient music. Over the years, Evening of Light has been an online zine, a label for handmade releases, and a monthly radio show. Not always all at the same time, in the same format, or with […]

Great to see this new project – Stag Hare – has been picked up. When I first heard this album, recommended by Sean Conrad of Inner Islands records, I was blown away by the sound, partly New Age and also what some term Now Age. It was so good to my ears , I made it my Album of the Week – 8/11//16 and was also going to be a Todays Discovery but pleased to post this YIKIS review instead.

Since it’s Halloween

Here is the new release from Betty Koster aka Phantasm Nocturnes, a dark experimental artist. The main genres that she employs are dark ambient, noise, drone, and industrial. Phantasm Nocturnes is influenced by horror movies, books, serial killers and other musical artists with dark themes.

“This is where electronic and acoustic music find the perfect balance – which is precisely what Statea represents.” – Headphone Commute

Yes. Here’s the review…

So I guess the Infiné label wasn’t just teasing us when it promised its fans a full-length album, following the announcement of the EP01 release it has put out earlier this year (April, 2016)…

Review Reblog – Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith – EARS

Sometimes a reviewer hits the nail on the head and this review just seems to put into words the overall feeling of this release.

this album starts like a young baby bird that is kindly being pushed out of its homely nest . It opens its tiny little wings and realizes that is had captured the miraculous ability to fly in the great sky. It is so happy that the bird starts to sing with wide wakened eyes along with a euphoric feeling of success. Within its little feathered body it realizes that the whole world is at its tiny feet!

Then the album moves on with its audio appreciative wings all over an intriguing scene of the wetlands. This is the place in which frogs & toads gather and fishes stick their heads out of the water to see and hear what this wonderful music is all about. It’s Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith’s music and she brings it all out to give the soggy landscape a…

Todays Discovery – Jodie Lowther / Klepsydra

Written, produced & recorded by Jodie Lowther

In October 2013, Jodie released an album of sound snippets, most of them recorded for her Soundcloud sound blog project of 2013. The idea was to create a blog through sound only, each of the sounds put up were recorded quickly and spontaneously as snapshots of the day. They featured a mix of home recorded samples and found sounds, owls, vocal improvisations, makeshift percussion, electronic instruments, computer generated sounds, harmonies, and a ton of reverb. The album ‘Klepsydra’ features the majority of these sounds and also a few new recordings.

If you need some fresh air & some nature in your life with melodic atmospheres, but do not really feel like going out and exploring such real life things, or perhaps are living in the middle of a dense city; this pretty easy going release (found through Feminatronics) might be something for you.

12′ introduces the beautiful ear-sights of a soft field recording with friendly night crickets, and a little fine fresh breeze among the leaves. These are the first sounds of a really nice evening, one without any urban disturbance; making it an instant home pleaser for the homely people who are equipped with a nice audio set.

The work will continue with 4′ which consists of a pleasantly played warm melody seemingly made out of glass, (not broken but smooth)…
