Review Reblog – Marielle V Jakobsons – Star Core

This week Feminatronic playlist#95 is titled Quiet Times, music to just sit back, shut your eyes and really listen to and this album fits right into that category, with a heady mix of psyche ambience.

This pretty enlightening kind-of-an-album by multi-instrumentalist Marielle V Jakobsons starts with a nice spacious melodic amount of White Sparks. For some reason it gives me a winter-time feeling; snowflakes, socks hanging in the window, little lights and driving home for a futuristic Christmas. The melodies are nicely waved into each other creating a slow web of kind psychedelics that brings out a voice from deep within, something that seems to function as the kind of star to follow in order to find directions to a little hostel in the wintering white sparkling landscape.

Then the music changes into a warmer zone, some place in which psychedelics are teaming up with Persian hallucinations, harems, flying carpenters, bottles of smoke and graceful strings that belly dance their hour glass shapes on a floor full of comfortable…

Today’s Discovery – Talugung / _blank split release

Released January 13, 2017

“Experimental bedroom recordings. Dislocation, noise, home dubs, lofi, outsider, psychogeographical minimalism”

Interview on Power Moves Label –

A split disc from two anomalous, constantly working, compelling artists.

Ryan Waldron, who records as Talugung and lives in Hamilton, glides the first four pieces through intricate trial-and-error fascinated with microtonal and limiting scale-work, mesmerized and ultimately shaping entire hypnotic and repeating sound-worlds around treated timbre and wooden sustain. Adventurous and meditative, a deep approach to unwinding natural pulse and natural acoustic emulation.

Blanca Rego, who records as _blank and lives in Barcelona, finishes the album with a long-form curious piece of abstracted reinterpreted field recording, both data-bent and new-art cumulative, turning found sound ideas into stretched-out puffs of smoke, blurred from original presentation and flipped into static one-note-like hanging clouds. They pass by overhead but brush against us and vibrate like breezes from heavy swinging bells pushing their musical imprint of fine air and movement.

Five questions to both artists – please read on.

Todays Discovery – Jelena Glazova – Ilia Belorukov – Split Tape

This is another split tape from Jelena Glazova and Ilia Belorukov, that I have just discovered via the power of browsing YIKIS and I’m pleased to have tracked the release to Bandcamp.

keywords: experimental, electronic, abstract, soundscape
label: Steak Au Zoo http://www.steakauzoo.com

Ilia Belorukov is a musician, writer, organizer, Intonema label owner, collaborator and artist from Saint-Petersburg, Russia. His small biography made me think of a younger version of the legendary multi-cultural Moscow based artist, musician, organizer and poet Evgenij Kharitonov. I guess that these two Russians could probably move mountains of music and experiments together if the universe ever decided to put them in the same room in the same space.

^ Evgenij v. Kharitonov (who has absolutely nothing to do with this release..) ^ Evgenij v. Kharitonov (who has absolutely nothing to do with this release..)

But for now Ilia Belorukov isn’t doing a split or collaboration with Evgenij Kharitonov but with nobody less than Jelena Glazove from Riga (Latvia). She is like Evgenij also a poet, visual artist and works her way around combining her words and…
