National Poetry Day..at least here

National Poetry Day gives me an excuse to repost a couple of playlists and a favourite of mine by electronic music pioneer Ruth White : )

Reblog – Teresa Rampazzi’s voice and her unique piece “Taras” — laura zattra

Curious to hear what Teresa Rampazzi’s (1914-2001) voice sounded like? This is a unique opportunity. This audio track I’ve uploaded on SoundCloud is part of a radio programme aired in 1985 “Le nuove frontiere della musica” (New frontiers of music; director: Tonino Delfino). Lena Platonos and the secret sound of Greek electronica

Thanks to reissues by labels like Dark Entries and Into The Light Records, this electronic pioneer is reaching new audiences. Sarah Souli tells her story.

Wonderful overview here on Resident Advisor

Released in 1984, ‘Μάσκες Ηλίου’ (‘Sun Masks’) was Lena Platonos’ first record to feature her own words and vocals… “I began to reverse my thought process, to let melodies fade out, to turn to minimalism, to experiment on my Yamaha C60 synthesizer and a variety of “boxes” which I used to change the sound of my voice as well as the sound of the synthesizer” says Lena. The album featured experiments with different sounds and a new batch of electronic equipment, such as the legendary Roland TR 808 drum machine.

The album is made exclusively using analog synthesizers and heavily features the iconic Roland TR-808 drum machine. Lena narrates each song, reciting her own surreal Greek poetry with unique skill.

Electronic, dance, experimental,

I don’t want to sound cliched so here’s a good description –

” Berlin-based Chinese producer RUI HO makes electronic music that bridges modern club influences with traditional Chinese sounds.”
