Today’s Discovery #2 – Anne Heche – h + x

This is my second Today’s Discovery thanks to YIKIS : )

kainobuko's avatarYeah I Know It Sucks

Artist: anne heche
Title: h + x
Keywords: electronic ambient house Brazil

Anne Heche’s h + x is a singular track that feels romantic in a dark way. Like a forbidden romance that is naughty and thrilling on both side of the story. With classical sounding instruments and a tight firm sounding beat the soundtrack for such a thrilling ‘forbidden’ love affair (something that parents and most other people would probably not approve off) the scene is very much set.

The impression is even more elevated by the well placed samples of a sampled conversation coming out of a classic movie. I remember seeing it as the movie had a storyline you won’t easily forget, but unfortunately (thanks youth dementia) not remember its title or any other specific details from. But I do remember it was a fantastic story with a jet set setting in which a proper good looking…

Today’s Discovery – Sylvia Monnier- Stock Shot & Addictive Sling

My review? Actors never sounded so good : )

” Mika Perez has fragmented her aural identity across a number of guises and collaborative outlets. Whether issuing dreary and dreamy sets of amorphous synth pop as Sunny Dunes or recording as a duo (as Deep Catalogue or Suaves Figures), Perez never fails to bring a certain sense of ethereal genius into the fold. But Perez’s other ongoing solo project is Sylvia Monnier, an alias she’s used to issue surreal sets of synthetic sound on Cosmic Winnetou, Scum Yr Earth, Seconds, and BLWBCK, among others.

Sylvia Monnier now graces Sacred Phrases’ catalog with ‘Stock Shot & Addictive Sling,’ a conceptual cassette that meditates on some of the film world’s more dynamic, emotionally raw players. “Michel Piccoli” opens the set with curious apprehension, descending into frame like a light fog rolling through the woods. Distant static and occasional creaks provide the only sense of percussion and “rhythm” while the narrative is told entirely in negative space. “Theresa Russell” and “Gene Hackman” float in a sonic simmer of crackling textures and cyclical drone. “Delphine Seyrig,” one of the more dynamic pieces here, transitions from vacant field recordings and anonymous musique concrete into something much more mechanical, almost like a bizarrely kosmische take on industrial drone music. “Dennis Hopper” and “Maria Schneider” close the set out in an open-ended epiphany.”

Friday Focus – Pink Noises

“Pink Noises promotes work by women who are DJs, electronic musicians and sound artists, make information on music production more accessible to women and girls, and encourage critical thinking about audio technologies and cultures.

The website Pinknoises.com was founded in 2000 by musician and writer Tara Rodgers (Analog Tara). It was supported by a large community of contributors and participants in online discussions and occasional events. The site was updated for a few years and has remained online as an archive since then. This page continues its mission with links to info and videos of inspiring artists, gear, and audio esoterica.”

Today’s Discovery – Doe Eye

What a gorgeous sound this release has. Slightly off kilter, in a good way, ambient with depth. Doe Eye is the ambient/electronic project of recording engineer & producer Maryam Qudus. All physical proceeds will be donated to the ACLU & Planned Parenthood.

Review Reblog – Anne-F Jacques

“Anne-F Jacques creates microscopic worlds of whirring machines, steampunk flea circuses of motorized sonics birthed from her collection of mechanical discs and wheels (‘rotating surfaces’), meticulously calibrated and often adjusted with weights or blocks to interfere with their natural balance…”
A lovely overview / Introduction to the work of Anne – F Jacques –

Review Reblog – Dalot ~ Mutogibito

How could I have not reblogged this? Thought I had, so apologies to all.

postrockcafe's avatara closer listen

FolderWe believe we’ve found the perfect album for Mother’s Day!  With MutogibitoDalot (Maria Papadomanolaki) returns to her roots, while celebrating the newness of motherhood.  She’s made an album which her young daughter Athena will likely enjoy now and brag about later.

The endearing cover art (by Violetta Testacalda) is reminiscent of nesting dolls, with a mothering twist.  Those dolls don’t cradle each other like these images do.  The album sways with comfort, like a child in her mother’s arms; bells and mobiles abound; and in the end, a lullaby rocks the child to sleep.

While the gentle opening track (“s2s”) sounds like recent Dalot, the album’s key tracks “Tear” and “Lift” hearken back to an earlier time.  In these pieces (and to a lesser extent, “Arrival”), one can hear hints of early shoegaze and post-rock.  Yes, Dalot dares to use these vintage terms and bears them with pride.  With…

Review Reblog -Beast Nest’s “Songs for Puppies”- Heathen Harvest

Sharmi Basu, the intricate powerhouse behind the project Beast Nest, seemingly has the rare power of sleight of hand. Her ability to pull the rug out from under you whilst catching you and projecting you into another time, place, space continuum is infinate considering the finite nature of material recordings. Songs for Puppies reads like…
