Queer feminist Swedish rapper Silvana Imam questions privileges and fights for a global feminist movement. However, the interview shows that her protest is not made out of empty slogans, but out of strong beliefs. From the Norient book «Seismographic Sounds» (see and order here).

Despite being one of the first female Iranian rappers, Salome MC has no interest in perpetuating the current state of the music business. To her, it is about letting the music speak for itself. REBLOG – This is what it sounds like when you turn antique telephone switchboards into musical instruments — Quartz

There was an eerie hum emanating from a dimly lit room above a bakery on a side street in Durham. She’s controlling the switchboards, which are creating the droning sound…

REVIEW REBLOG -Christine Ott ~ Only Silence Remains — a closer listen

This is one beguiling record. It starts with opera and ends with poetry, and in the end, only silence remains. The storied career of Christine […]

REVIEW REBLOG – Various Artists ~ VA1+2 (Tavern Eightieth)

“…this double-disc set is a benefit album to raise money for Alzheimer Research U.K. Second – and this is for potential consumers – these tracks are exclusive to the compilation,”
Including AGF, Midori Hirano, Iris Garrelfs and Poulomi Desai.

VA1+2Mixed-artist compilations were all the rage at the turn of the 21st century, but have lost some of their appeal in the digital age.  Finnish label Tavern Eightieth has done two things to correct any misconceptions.  First and foremost, this double-disc set is a benefit album to raise money for Alzheimer Research U.K.  Second – and this is for potential consumers – these tracks are exclusive to the compilation, which is especially noteworthy as some of these artists (including Bibio, Glacis and Matthew Collings) have albums being released the same month and could just as easily have contributed older work.

As might be expected when 22 artists are involved, the timbres and overall quality are all over the map, and some of the tracks include vocals, so we’re going to zero in on a select few.  On Disc One, we’re able to catch up with Makunouchi Bento, a group…
