Interesting article with Vero Mota – Five Sound Questions to Verónica Mota
There is always just so much posted on IWD and increasingly I feel overwhelmed by all the sheer amount of articles and playlists. However, here’s one that covers mostly Classical artists, some who use electronic processes but also covering several platforms such as Vimeo, Bandcamp and SoundCloud, all in one post. Concentrating on Australian composers – Really worth checking out.

The theme for International Women’s Day in 2019 is #BalanceforBetter. Happy International Women’s Day! The team would like to acknowledge that lists such as these invariably exclude more composers than they promote. However, we embrace the opportunity to reflect on the striking music featured by female-identifying composer in Making Waves playlists and the Making Conversation […]

Yes, you have read it well; a fantastic album. It’s done and created by a artist named Sabiwa who order us not to make any sound ourself and instead listen to her big banging beats, mythologically impressive sounds and futuristic ambiences. She is right, first of all because it sounds so massive that your own sounds would just fade away into nothing, but second of all; it’s just to impressive to be chatted through.
All these goodies on this album seem to be smeared into each other, like good ideas that had become real things in reality. Odd…

France Jobin | Intrication
No. (CD/DL)
A stalwart of the microsound scene, France Jobin releases her 9th album on the No. label. Despite her previous association with the most lowercase of sounds, this album sees the Montreal-based artist expand her sound palette considerably. These tracks are noticeably fuller in scale and scope, allowing Jobin to explore wider realms of audio. Of course, her signature sine waves are present in many places here, delicate shards and pings of treble and hiss, but overall this collection embraces a warmer, richer aesthetic and it pays off.
Track titles are mysterious, possibly relating to quantum entanglement, as this heady area of theoretical physics was influential in the construction of Intrication. The first piece, “Ph”, is an epic 15-minute track that begins proceedings in style. Glitched-out half-melodies stutter from speaker to speaker, with high pitched crackles following along the periphery. Thicker…

(une version française de cette entrevue ici) Line Katcho works in the fields of acousmatic music, audio visual work and film music. Her primary concerns involve using sound as kinetic matter, representing movement, forces and gestures. Her need for precision is complemented by an experimental approach and a strong interest in perceptual play. She is […]
