Francesca Heart – Ianassa Alga Miraggio — Yeah I Know It Sucks

Another ‘find’ from YIKIS and a lovely Sunday afternoon listen. Reposting some YIKIS posts here as they have an interesting take on sounds, as well as a platform that actually supports artists that would never get a lot of attention otherwise. I’m all for that : )

LISTENING TO…

Due Matte
by Valentina Magaletti & Marlene Ribeiro

Experimental, uk underground music, concrete, tropical, tropical concrete

“Two of the most important artists of UK underground music: Valentina Magaletti (Tomaga, Vanishing Twins, etc) and Marlene Ribeiro (Gnod, Negrabranca) were invited to contribute to Hysteria, an artistic residency in Porto 2019. “Due Matte” is the fruit of it: an interaction game between styles and sounds, mesmeric in its echoes of distant landscapes and enveloping in its spatiality.
A music exercise in “tropical concrete”.

No. 4
by christina vantzou

soundtrack, slow light, omnidirectional

I have been revisiting some articles from sites I have followed these past 8 years and came across the Christina Vantzou interview from March 2016 on Sound Propositions / A Closer Listen, well worth checking out here. I had posted it at the time but it spurred me to go check out new releases and here is this afternoon’s listen.

Here’s the review of No4 on A Closer Listen too.

I decided to revisit and also finally visit other people’s sites and repost some gems here. This series Sound Propositions, in the words of A Closer Listen themselves is ” fusing narrative interviews with music, field-recording, and sound design” and there are some very creative artists doing that.

I thought I would post a couple here, well the start of the articles and interviews but they are well worth clicking through for the rest : )

Sound Propositions is an ongoing, semi-regular series of conversations with artists exploring their creative practices and individual aesthetics, conceived of as a counter-narrative to a dominant trend in music journalism which fetishizes equipment and new technologies. Rather than writing copy that can just as easily have come from a press release or a catalog, this […]

Reblog – Amy Cutler ~ Örö Tape: Fieldtrips of the Damned / Marina Rosenfeld & Ben Vida ~ Vertice — a closer listen

What is the purpose of recorded sound? As music lovers, we live and breathe it. But what is its raison d’être? Recordings transport us into distant places or timeframes. They prompt emotional and intellectual responses. The aural can complement visual and spatial arts. It can be raw material for further sonic explorations. Perhaps multi-disciplinary artists […]
