EVENT NEWS – Introducing our new commissioned artists for DD Day 2016

NEWS – female:pressure – Call for Submissions

female pressure

< CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS >

via female:pressure statement –

female:pressure is launching an awareness and solidarity campaign for the canton of #Rojava (located in northern Syria), where women participate on all levels of decision making and building a new society from scratch, with built-in social, racial and ethnic justice, religious freedom, ecological principles and gender equality.

With a series of music, media and sound art to listen, dance and fight to, we would like to send our love and strength to these women and spread a positive message in support of their efforts.

We are calling for participation and submission of works. The work must be related and critically deal with the topic of #Rojava; otherwise there are no restrictions. Everybody is welcome!

NEWS – Dreamtime Collection Releases

Magnetic Wind - Jessica Waters Art and Sound's avatarMagnetic Wind

I’ve put together an album, rereleasing some of the tracks I love that I feel are perfect for an album that helps put you to sleep. I’m calling it the Dreamtime Collection. On it you’ll find tracks like Asleep Next to You, Entering the Shell and Falling. While it could be argued that most of my music could put you to sleep, these tracks have been put together with that purpose in mind. The plan is to have several editions of the Dreamtime Collection, volumes, that include new material. This is the new project. Dreamtime Collection. We’ll see how many volumes we come up with. Enjoy!

NEWS – Rhythms and Song / Reductive book launch at Hundred Years Gallery

Daniela Cascella's avataren abîme

Rhythms and Song is a new text published in the Reductive Four book . It’s in five parts: 1 and 5 are recordings of inner voices as well as prompts/scores for reading, 2, 3 and 4 were born out of very specific moments and materials: remembering a statue of Martyr Saint Vittoria in Rome during a gig (bones and wax), counting/listing some books of mine that got burned in a fire earlier this year (paper and fire), mixing the voices of Twin Peaks’ Nadine and Breton’s Nadja (silence and voice).

I will read from the texts during a performance in collaboration with Ryoko Akama on Friday 27th November at Hundred Years Gallery in London , as part of the Reductive Four book launch.

Rhythms and Song

1. That listening feeling.

2. The murmurs of Saint Vittoria, martyr.

3. The silences of Nadine and Nadja.

4. After the fire. A litany of…

NEWS – Kaleidoscope to release Nov. 27th

I first came across the music of Magnetic Wind right at the very start of this project, when our music was featured along with other women electronic musicians on an all female playlist. For a while I thought that she had given up music but so glad to see that the muse is still there and pleasantly surprised to see this new release after a hiatus.

Magnetic Wind’s newest album Kaleidoscope will release November 27th on CDBaby, ITunes and Bandcamp as well as CD Baby sponsored retailers (Spotify ect).Kaleidoscope is a collection of space driven ambient that has come to be Magnetic Wind’s musical signature. Like a kaleidoscope, sounds and textures are patterned pieces organized into one work. “Life is like a kaleidoscope too”, says Jess Waters of Magnetic Wind. “You have pieces of memories and experiences and they are put together to create this unit of a whole experience of you.”xk9Ed61448155801

The Museum of Portable Sound is dedicated to the collection, preservation, and exhibition of acoustic objects: cultural artefacts related to the history and culture of sound. With a specific focus on portability, digital initiatives, and community engagement, we bring the culture of sound to the public, one listener at a time. By eschewing a typical architectural model and operating solely as a wandering, portable museum, our institution questions the traditional museum model by leveraging its own portability towards investigating what a museum can and should sound like in the 21st century. With collections spanning the natural sciences, music, art, culture, and portable recoding technologies, our visitors are able to experience the culture of sound in…

CONFERENCE NEWS – Alternative Histories of Electronic Music

Hurry deadline is nearly here to submit papers and be part of creating an Alternative Electronic History or even to correct the history : )

Laura Zattra's avatarlaura zattra

International Conference: Alternative Histories of Electronic Music: 15–16 April 2016, The Science Museum Research Centre, Queen’s Gate, London. Call for papers (Deadline: 31 October).

"Clavecin électrique" by Original: Jean-Baptiste Delaborde: https://goo.gl/tXtrhw “Clavecin électrique” by Jean-Baptiste de Laborde in 1761 – https://goo.gl/tXtrhw

The story of the genesis and development of electronic/electroacoustic music is often told in the same familiar way. Experiments in musique concrète in Paris and elektronische Musik in Cologne played a central role in European developments, while activities in New York such as those of the Columbia-Princeton Electronic Music Center, John Cage and his Music for Tape-Recorders group, and Louis and Bebe Barron are frequently proffered as the most prominent American contributions. These activities were significant, of course; but they were not the only progenitors of modern-day electronic music. There are many, many other ways in which the story of electronic music’s history and development could be told. Read More.
