Artist: Jessica Grant
Title: Salt the Roots
Keywords: alternative electronic experimental eclectica minimalism neoclassical triphop United Kingdom

Let this delightful EP of Jessica Grant be the lighthearted kindness to fill up your heart and ears. With a lovely melodic showcase she brings us the nightly sleepy pleasantness of a electronic composition called ‘cascade’, which feels like the experienced touch of a feather, while at the same time being tightly programmed for a bright energetic friendly future. I heard this as the clock hit 4:00 AM as just opening my eyes from a fantastical dream & instead of walking all over it (like most music does) it became a lovely collider that kept my dreams intact & functioned as a bridge between this reality and the one as experienced as dreamland. I expect that children would be appreciative of this form of music too; I might have to test it out…

hashtag International Women’s Day pt2

To try to get as many artists some visibility I have been posting compilations. Again, this is not an exhaustive list and are just suggestions of starting points . I may add to it in future.

In no real order or preference and yes, some are diverse….

Latin American sound explorations.

Experimental noise, noisecore, speedcore, harsh noise, noise wall, power electronics Vancouver

A monstrous compilation but only a fraction of french contemporary sound creativity.

Inspired by the new scene of independent female artists and electronic music producers from South America.

An experimental music compilation featuring ten female composers from far east Asia (Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, China).

This multi-genre compilation was inspired by Ionesco’s play ‘Rhinoceros’ with various artists voicing their protest via sound.

Experimental, ambient, electroacoustic, industrial, noise, ritual.

hashtag Everyday is International Women’s Day

I’ve been neglecting here recently and today is no exception as although it is International Women’s Day, I’ve spent a lot of time recently doing what I love.. creating electronic music.

Anyway, everyday is IWD here but I did try a little experiment.

How much electronic music of all genres is being created by artists who just happen to identify as female?

So the following playlists are made up of  tracks that i’ve listened to but not all, in the last month. I haven’t included some due to their length and for that I apologise if you are one of those artists. Of course, there are many many artists that I haven’t heard as yet.
As always, these are in no way an exhaustive list. I’m always just skimming the surface of creativity and as ever they are just starting points…it really is the tip of the iceberg of some of the music I’ve listened to this past few weeks and doesn’t cover all the artists I am following or who follow.
I  just wanted to see for myself how many artists are out there creating a huge range of sounds and I’ve deliberately not put them in any order to underline how eclectic they are. Brace yourselves for IWD2018 playlists –

I have a huge admiration and love of Game Music and this encompasses all the great things about the genre. Good Game Music should be that which you can listen to without a controller…….

I came across this release via the Bandcamp interview with Lene Raine. You can find out more here

Reblog – ICEBERG THE DRIFT on Sublunar Society

There are an awful lot of modular synthesizers and also releases out there at the moment, but Ch. Webster always manages explore subjects that I wish to find out more about and creates something sonically interesting with the technology….

Review Reblog – Bana Haffar ~ Matiere

It’s only the beginning of the year and I already feel swamped with new releases which is a good thing : )

You can get the release here

More here –

postrockcafe's avatara closer listen

All manner of gorgeous tracks occupy Bana Haffar‘s Soundcloud page, many unreleased.  The Los Angeles artist has been swiftly building her sonic resume over the past two years, and Matiere is her latest public declaration.  This follow-up to last year’s Alif 12″ sees her continue to expand the length of her tracks into something resembling mini-sets; “Endo” and “Exo” are dual movements of the same work, at eighteen total minutes a light yet satisfying two course meal.

Much of Haffar’s work is with patches (see photo), but she keeps the shifts to a minimum here, preferring to approach the movements in different manners rather than to alter their base sound.  As “Endo” begins, it sounds like the tuning of a bass guitar, demonstrating the range of the Make Noise modular synthesizer.  One knows a song is going to break out; one simply doesn’t know when.  The wait turns…

Review Reblog – ΠΑΝΘΕΟΝ ~ A Book of Memories

A thing of beauty…

postrockcafe's avatara closer listen

St. Petersburg’s ΠΑΝΘΕΟΝ label has been responsible for some lovely packaging over the years, and A Book of Memories is yet another charmer.  The embroidered box (designed by Mila Berestovaya & Tim Six) contains cassettes from Sunmoonstar, YlangYlang and Jum-Jum, together forming a Russian tapestry as warm and welcoming as a fire.  Each is also available separately in download or tape form.  The set draws on folklore, yet couches the presentation in modern skins; each has a backstory that sounds like a page from a wondrous collection of fairy tales.

Open the box, and the stories begin to unfold.  Sunmoonstar‘s Картины (Paintings) tells of “an old book that was itself a story,” its pages turned by “the crystal clear winter air.”  The tones fall as gently as snow, twinkling like frost on “озеро (lake)”.  This gentle album honors the winter solstice, marking the longest day with the sweetest sounds:…

Artist: Marlo Eggplant
Title: Delayed
Keywords: experimental ambient electronic avant-garde drone noise Leeds
Label: orpus callosum distro

Delayed might be consisting of just two tracks, they are of such a allure that they might be the missing elements that you need in order to make your life complete. Maybe not, but let’s pretend just to make this write-up slightly more important. At first Delayed gives us the right crackle to give you a reason to shudder for a bit. It might give you the impression of a sweet hum and a attempt to growl quietly, but when the time is ready; you might raise a few neck-hairs when she plugs at specific places a few shockwaves of noise. With this the artist might warn you for what Delayed might give you on a later moment in time. But not too quick as Marlo Eggplant wants to trick her listeners into…

Today’s Discovery – Feed Goals by Enchanted Lands

“…assemblages, showing intricate weaving and arranging of sound materials. Her tracks form strange scenes or frames where just when the sound seems to settle down a turnover point is reached and a delicate change of balance results in a whole new plateau. Receiving cues from ASMR, impact blasts, and natural phenomena, these elements become sound ingredients that add microscopic texture, sensuality and depth to their complementary sounds. Moving beyond any high or low fidelity, the nature of the sounds blend together into a space where compression artefacts, phone mic’ing and high-tech sound design mingle fluently. From weeping wind harps to whispered confessionals to immense trance reveries, the result is a sound that eludes itself and forces the ear to expect some curious inversion around every corner.”

Couldn’t attempt to describe this any better – A sonic delight.
