I DON’T DO LISTS…PT4

Phew…Just scraping the tip of the iceberg with these. As usual, no preferences, order, rank, whatever…

I Don’t Do Lists but…pt3

By now, I think you may have a good idea of my Christmas box for those of you who land here and browse. Hopefully, you will leave and give a few things a listen and what’s more, actually buy something as a gift to yourself and importantly, to keep some musicians heads above the water, so to speak. Every little counts : )

Here is the next instalment of #released2020 and as usual, there is no ranking, no preferences, no order.

Happy Listening.

I Don’t Do Lists but…pt 2

Is it only the 14th December? There will be a few of these by the sounds of it.

This is the next collection of 20 releases, and it only covers the days December 8th to 12th twitter posts and I’ve barely scraped the surface of #released2020. It’s been a horrendous year for many but the releases have been eclectic, at times challenging and luckily, numerous.

In case you missed my explanation – Every year on social media and elsewhere, the big sites publish their end of year best of lists and this has always made me feel uncomfortable. On many, they are made up of the big names and labels, not very diverse and often narrow in scope. I also have a thing about the subjectivism of lists and rank. What one person says is great, another can’t see the fuss, often resulting in animosity and division…..Isn’t there enough in the world?

I decided a couple of years ago to try and cover as many of the new releases as possible, given my personal constraints, and have posted them under the moniker of I don’t do lists but this was released….This year I just used the #released2020 on twitter.

As usual, no order, no preferences, no rank, not exhaustive,….It’s easy…

I Don’t Do Lists…Continued

During the year I myself fail to cover everything that is released. I just cannot keep up (which is a good thing) and miss a lot too, try as hard as I do to listen. I thought that I would try to recap as many 2019 releases as possible here throughout December, as a way to rectify this.
Anyway here goes. No order, no preference –

I don’t do lists but other people do and these are from a list of Drone releases by Anti – Gravity Bunny  You can see the full list here and were released in 2019-

As I have stated I don’t do lists but sometimes lists are worth it and these releases from Anti-Gravity Bunnys’ list are some of the best Drones around  : )

Thank you for listening : )

I Don’t Do Lists…

I have an aversion to lists.

They create an atmosphere of  competition between artists and genres. They also often only plug those releases that are ‘readily’ there in view – easy to find.  That is, the artists and/ or labels / PR etc who have the most money and time, often are the ones that get the most focus. Consequently, many female identifying artists don’t even get a look in and /or get overlooked, as proved by the many studies and reports available to prove this fact. I will refer you to female:pressure FACTS and Counting the Music   although sadly and even very recently, there are many more studies from Classical to Jazz as well as Electronic, that report the same findings.

Believe me when I say, that there are large numbers of female identifying artists out there. You only have to look.

Of course, during the year I myself fail to cover everything that is released. I just cannot keep up ( which is a good thing) and miss a lot too, try as hard as I do to listen. I thought that I would try to recap as many 2019 releases as possible here throughout December, as a way to rectify this.
